Weekend in Newport

This year was our 4th wedding anniversary and Aaron planned a surprise weekend in Newport, RI. We stayed in a cute inn, Shamrock Farm and had a great time together, despite the rainy weather. We walked the Cliff Walk and admired the mansions, ate some delicious food (ask Aaron about the chicken fried lobster!) and Aaron even accompanied me to a yarn store (without complaint). We took the above photo on Sunday at the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge, where we walked along the ocean in the rain. It was a fun weekend and a wonderful surprise.

One of my favorite things about this book is that in this fictional world there are names given to ideas that ought to have names in the real world. For instance, Diax's Rake is the idea that you shouldn't believe something just because you want to. The name itself isn't that important, but I like that Stephenson recognizes that some ideas deserve to be acknowledged.

Like GTA in the Old West, but so far, more interesting. I just hope that the buddy characters don't require the same kid-gloved hand-holding from GTA4.
