The search has begun…

Sah and ceiling

It’s official, we have started looking for a house. After another frustrating occurence at our current apartment, we have finally gotten serious about buying a house of our own. We are in the VERY early stages and are really just trying to educate ourselves on what we like and don’t and more significantly what we can afford…but it’s all very exciting. We went to our first open house this past weekend. Unfortunately this particular house needed quite a bit of work and as you can see from the photo above, the ceilings were a little low for our taste, but it was a good learning experience.

Just to let you know there are quite a few gems here in the DuBois area. How about a nice 4 bedroom, 2 bath for $35,000. Or my favorite…a 5 apartment house, all 5 apartments were already rented out, for only $31,000.
Finding a house sucks, buying it sucks even more. I can still remember how tough it was being sticklers on certian things in our house. For example, after a home inspection we were told some of the electrical work in the basement is not up to code. So we fought tooth and nail to get it done right. Within a year of moving in I had spliced 3 outlets using only electrical tape and those wire protector thingies. Not up to code by ANY streatch of the imagination. Of course owning a house is SO much better than renting. I just removed the carpet in our basement and put in ceramic tile. Not something I could have done were I renting.
