While it&#039;s inexpensive to produce an &lt;em&gt;audio&lt;/em&gt; podcast, it&#039;s potentially much more expensive to produce a &lt;em&gt;video&lt;/em&gt; podcast. If you look at the most popular podcasts at iTunes you&#039;ll see a trend of video podcasts forming a larger and larger slice of the pie over time.

Another thing is DVD sales. Extras like deleted scenes, makings of, commentary, etc. have been hooks to get the fans of a show to buy the DVDs even though they&#039;ve seen every episode. To offer those for free reduces the value of the DVDs.</description>
