Triple Birthday

Friday night, the whole family got together, not to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, but to belatedly celebrate Aaron, Peter and James’ birthdays. We had a delicious dinner at Floramos. As we were a party of ten, they sat us at this huge round table, complete with a lazy susan in the center to facilitate the passing of plates and drinks. Afterwards we all went back to Peter’s apartment for gifts and brownie sundaes. It was great for all of us to be together.

One of my favorite things about this book is that in this fictional world there are names given to ideas that ought to have names in the real world. For instance, Diax's Rake is the idea that you shouldn't believe something just because you want to. The name itself isn't that important, but I like that Stephenson recognizes that some ideas deserve to be acknowledged.

Like GTA in the Old West, but so far, more interesting. I just hope that the buddy characters don't require the same kid-gloved hand-holding from GTA4.
