The bad kind of waterfront property…

Flood at Amy and Joe's

I am sorry to say that Amy and Joe now have first hand experience with the major flooding that is going on in this part of the state. The above picture is the lake that has accumulated in what used to be their back yard. It grew and grew and then started pouring into their basement. We went over last night to help them pump out. They had three pumps going and when we arrived the water level in their basement was close to 2 feet. Joe, Aaron, Jamie (Joe’s brother) and Peter worked into the early hours and managed to get the level down to about 2 inches with the help of a “super pump” my Dad managed to obtain for them. Unfortunately, when I checked in with them this morning, the water level was back up to 6 inches. Seems like its going to be an uphill battle until the rain stops and things start to dry out. Click on the above photo to see a few other shots of the flooding at their house.

Joe and I almost decided to leave the water in basement and wait for winter, creating a private rink.

I feel left out. No mention about Amy and I removing the water by buckets. A feeling of dejas vus (sp?) as I remember us all doing it in our basement many years ago. At least I wasn’t 7 months pregnant. Oh the stories Amy and Joe will have to tell “Baby D.”

On Mom, I’m sorry I didn’t mention you and Amy’s bucket brigade…I did not mean to de-value your efforts. And yes I do remember all of us in the basement at home years ago throwing buckets out the little hatch door and at each other…it must have been warmer then.

Joe and I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of our family for there help through the flood. We really appreciate everything you ‘ve all done. Don’t know what we would have done without you guys! Good news is the pond is starting to receed from the basement door. So, please keep your fingers crossed that we don’t get any more rain!
