A new toy for Aaron (…well ok, for both of us)

13" Macbook

Last night we finally ordered Aaron’s overdue anniversary/Christmas/birthday present. We have been shopping for a laptop for a while now and finally settled on Apple’s new 13″ MacBook. To say Aaron is excited about it would be a bit of an understatement – he’s more like a kid anxiously awaiting Christmas morning. He went to the Apple store in the mall yesterday to check it out in person and came home satisfied that it would suit our needs… So it’s ordered and now we just wait.

That’s awesome! I’m a Mac fan from back in the day…way back in the day. I had a Mac 20 years ago perhaps…and I even took one to college my first time around. I’m psyched to know the prices are finally dropping so normal Americans can get their hands on them.
I’ve been toying around with hacking my laptop to run the latest Mac OS to see what it’s like. I have a friend who has done it and he hardly boots up XP anymore.

One of my favorite things about this book is that in this fictional world there are names given to ideas that ought to have names in the real world. For instance, Diax's Rake is the idea that you shouldn't believe something just because you want to. The name itself isn't that important, but I like that Stephenson recognizes that some ideas deserve to be acknowledged.

Like GTA in the Old West, but so far, more interesting. I just hope that the buddy characters don't require the same kid-gloved hand-holding from GTA4.
