Lull in Reality

I can admit it..I love reality TV – the drama, the fights, the losing – all of it. So The Amazing Race is over and Tyler and BJ won (yeah!). On Survivor all the votes have been counted and Aras was the winner (boooo, I was routing for Terry or Cirie)… But all of a sudden the ‘Now Playing’ list on my Tivo only has the crappy shows Aaron is recording. What’s a reality TV junkie like me suppose to do now? I guess I’ll have to settle for Deadwood’s season 2 on DVD.

Author: Neal Stephenson

One of my favorite things about this book is that in this fictional world there are names given to ideas that ought to have names in the real world. For instance, Diax's Rake is the idea that you shouldn't believe something just because you want to. The name itself isn't that important, but I like that Stephenson recognizes that some ideas deserve to be acknowledged.

Like GTA in the Old West, but so far, more interesting. I just hope that the buddy characters don't require the same kid-gloved hand-holding from GTA4.
