Sunday we had a little welcome home party for Justin at Amy and Joe’s house. I was impressed, as the new parents managed to host a cookout, while feeding, changing and caring for their new son. We all took turns holding him and passing him around – there’s no shortage of loving hands in this family. I think it’s safe to say we all felt lucky to be in his company.

One of my favorite things about this book is that in this fictional world there are names given to ideas that ought to have names in the real world. For instance, Diax's Rake is the idea that you shouldn't believe something just because you want to. The name itself isn't that important, but I like that Stephenson recognizes that some ideas deserve to be acknowledged.

Like GTA in the Old West, but so far, more interesting. I just hope that the buddy characters don't require the same kid-gloved hand-holding from GTA4.
