Andrew’s Day

Back in the beginning of June, we traveled to DC to celebrate Andrew’s Bar Mitzvah and his 13th birthday. It’s hard to believe that Andrew who wasn’t even a year old when I moved to DC right after college, is now 13 years old. We had a busy weekend with lots of celebrating, eating and family all around. Andrew wrote and read an insightful and moving speech – that was both inspiring and clearly personal. We’re both proud of Andrew and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.

One of my favorite things about this book is that in this fictional world there are names given to ideas that ought to have names in the real world. For instance, Diax's Rake is the idea that you shouldn't believe something just because you want to. The name itself isn't that important, but I like that Stephenson recognizes that some ideas deserve to be acknowledged.

Like GTA in the Old West, but so far, more interesting. I just hope that the buddy characters don't require the same kid-gloved hand-holding from GTA4.
