Over the course of our trip we stayed at some great B&Bs, but the most memorable was in Edinburgh. It’s owned by a lovely and fascinating couple. Helén is from France and makes an amazing breakfast. Erlund is Scottish and is a freelance journalist with an interest in custom gadgetry. I would have been quite content just spending the day learning the back stories of each object or photo on their walls.
Our second day in Edinburgh was beautiful and sunny, and we took full advantage of it. After an excellent breakfast (at which Sarah discovered she liked smoked salmon), we started off by climbing the hill to the castle. Edinburgh Castle is an enormous complex and we spent most of our day there. In the afternoon we walked down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace. We then made our way to Calton Hill to see the monuments and the views from the hilltop at sunset. The UK is known for having some of the best Indian food outside of the subcontinent, so we grabbed a taxi to dinner and had phenomenal meal at Mithas.
